The most memorable supermodel TV and movie cameos, featuring Elle Macpherson in 'Friends' and Kate Moss in 'Absolutely Fabulous'.
'While some supermodels dedicate their entire lives to fashion, a handful make the pilgrimage to the big (or smaller) screen to pursue acting careers. In most cases, supermodels play similar, or slightly exaggerated versions of themselves, when they partake in small—yet nonetheless iconic—film and television appearances. Some roles mark a successful shift into acting for the model at hand, like Tyra Banks ' iconic role in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air . However, other roles are simply in the name of a fun cameo, like Kate Moss's hilarious turn in 2016's Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie . Perhaps the crème de la crème of supermodel screen appearances was Elle Macpherson 's famous arc on Friends , which we revisit every time we're bingeing the show (which is more often than we'd like to admit). Scroll down for the on-screen supermodel appearances we hope you'll never forget. Jonah Waterhouse (2) The 10 Most Unexpected Supermodel On-Screen Cameos Claudia Schiffer in Love Actually (2003) German supermodel Schiffer played a love interest for Liam Neeson's widower character in 2003's Love Actually —which has since become one of the best-loved Christmas films of all time. Image: IMDb Kate Moss in Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie (2016) The plot of the Ab-Fab movie revolved around Moss , after Edina and Patsy flee the UK after accidentally 'killing' her. The fashion icon had only a few moments on screen, but at least fans got to see her swanning around in the River Thames wearing a green sequinned gown, with wine and a cigarette in hand. Image: IMDb Tyra Banks in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (1992) In the early '90s, Banks had a recurring role as Jackie Ames, the on-and-off girlfriend of Will Smith's character, in the hit sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air . Her arc lasted a handful of episodes during the show's fourth season, and saw Banks taken seriously as an actress as well as a supermodel. Image: IMDb Naomi Campbell in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air While Tyra Banks had a longer arc on Fresh Prince , fellow supermodel Campbell appeared for a single episode in the show's first season—wearing a body-con Azzedine Alaïa dress, no less. Image: IMDb Cindy Crawford in Fair Game (1995) '90s It-girl Crawford only acted in a handful of films, and played a lead in the 1995 action film Fair Game , opposite William Baldwin. The film received less-than-positive reviews, and from then on, Crawford stuck to modelling, before shifting gears to become a successful entrepreneur. Image: IMDb Elle Macpherson in Friends (1999-2000) Macpherson's role as Joey Tribbiani's girlfriend on Friends became one of the most memorable supermodel cameos in TV history. Macpherson, who rose to fame from her Sports Illustrated cover streak, has since voiced regrets about the role, telling TV Week in 2016: \'If I'd known how important [ Friends ] was in the US, or how long it would be on TV, I may not have chosen to do it.\' Image: IMDb Devon Aoki in 2 Fast, 2 Furious (2003) Aoki was 21 (and already the face of Versace) when she played a hot-pink racecar driver in 2 Fast 2 Furious , the first sequel to the successful The Fast and the Furious film. She famously had no driving experience prior to filming, and had to learn to drive on set. Image: IMDb Heidi Klum on Sex and the City (2002) Klum's one-episode arc on a 2002 episode of SATC saw her step over Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) on a runway, before high-fiving her after she got back up from her fall. She and Carrie also wore matching Dolce & Gabbana. Image: IMDb Amber Valletta in What Lies Beneath (2000) By 2000, Valletta was already an established supermodel, but launched into acting with What Lies Beneath , where she played a poltergeist haunting a wealthy couple (Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeiffer). She had no speaking lines in the film, but don't let that convince you she was any less spooky. Image: Getty Brooke Shields in Two and a Half Men (2007) Shields was a famous child actress and model, and returned to the screen for a memorable cameo in Two and a Half Men as Alan's neighbour (in 2007, when Charlie Sheen still starred on the show). RELATED CONTENT Swipe to close \t\t \t\t\t\t\t What on earth does a rapper and a cartoon pig have to argue about, you ask? The same thing that most musos fight about, their music. Shortly before Azalea was set to drop her second album In My Defense, the dastardly piglet announced that she, too, was releasing a new album. “It’s over for me now,” Azalea shared along with Peppa’s tweet. The sarcastic swine then used Iggy’s own lyrics against her, writing: “Peppa’s so fancy, you already know.” But as they say, if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em, and that’s exactly what the rapper did. Iggy conceded by sharing a collab vid where Peppa plays a rap by the Aussie singer and it’s the mother of all mashups. 'Christ, Skins was bloody depressing wasn’t it? The iconic and controversial teen TV series was a staple for most of us in our formative angsty emo years, when we’d ~relate~ deeply to the tears and drama the Brit kids experienced seemingly on the daily. RELATED CONTENT Swipe to close \t\t \t\t\t\t\t But there were sad Skins moments and fucking TRAGIC PUMMEL THE HEART INTO PIECES Skins moments, and it’s the latter I’m going to take us on a trip down memory lane with today. A really bleak one that’ll probably leave you feeling really shit, to be honest. Before we begin, let’s just revisit the best intro song in the world, shall we? Ok, got that out of my system. Get your tissues ready bc here we go. 15. Cassie “Shoots” Sid Let’s start out by taking it easy – this wasn’t soul-ruining with it’s devastation, but Cassie’s unrequited love for Sid was heartbreaking. The poor girl was going through ENOUGH, OK? And she was so sweet and quirky, a perfect match for Sid. But OFC, Sid fucks it by hanging with Michelle and leaving Cassie waiting in his room when they were supposed to meet up. She loses it, then squirts him in the face with a mini water gun. It’s a weird moment to be so raw but it really is a raw and emotional scene. Then she says “it’s your choice, Sid. It’s always your choice” which just… ma heart. 14. Chris Sits In His Mum’s Cupboard It’s easy to forget the hard-partying kids of Skins were, well, kids – but the moment Chris realised his mum wasn’t gone for a few days, but gone for good, was definitely one of the times you remembered these were just teens trying to figure life out. His realisation came when he saw his Mum’s wardrobe emptied, and in his shock simply sits down in the empty space. It’s simple and it’s damn well tragic. 13. Just Like… Effie In General Look I wouldn’t necessarily say Effie has the most tragic arc, considering she survives the full series. But she certainly spends most of the episodes in a depressive, lost spiral. Effie’s self-destruction dominates this series, and to me she’s got too many sad moments to count (doing heroin! Fucking shit up with Freddie! Etc etc etc) not to mention all the most tragic lines (see above). 12. But Also When Effie Overdoses Tony carrying his sister out of the rave, a situation he got her into, was a lot of feels at once. 11. Tony Gets Hit By A Bus I would say this was more of a shocking WTF moment than a sad moment, but look – it’s iconic, so here we are. Who can forget the moment Tony FINALLY realised he loved Michelle, before getting suddenly mowed down by a bus? Things were sad the following season, though – watching Tony struggle with brain damage as a result of the bus accident was harrowing. 10. THAT Series 4 Opening There’s a reason we put a content warning on this article – Skins was notorious for dealing with the big teen issues in brutal ways. Like opening their fourth season with Sophia wandering through a packed club, before climbing up onto a railing and falling to her death. 9. Mini Has Sex Before She’s Ready There’s plenty of sex in Skins that’s not comfortable to watch, from people engaging in sexual acts just for revenge or just plain boredom (who can forget Tony/Maxxie) to self-destructive cheating. But Mini having sex with her boyfriend for the first time in an attempt to keep him from leaving her for Liv, pretending to not be a virgin and then seeing her scared and apprehensive facial expressions the whole time? Devastating. Not to mention straight after she sees Nick and Liv after they’ve fucked. She might not have been the most sympathetic Skins character but this was a hard watch. 8. Katie Finds Out She Can’t Have Kids We’re all waiting to find out if Katie is pregnant, so seeing her relief when the doctor tells her she isn’t makes this seem like it’ll be a happy moment. But then… the doctor tells her the reason her period has been absent is that she’s going through premature menopause, and therefore will never have children. Things get a bit comical even though it’s a really fucked up moment, with Katie dumping her dude and then heading home and straight into a family fight. But it’s when she’s reassuring her little brother that things will be fine, when they clearly are not fine for her, that’s really emotional. 7. Emily Finds Out Naomi Cheated Oh god, is there anything more heartbreaking than realising your girlfriend cheated on you with someone via sketch book? 6. Grace Dies Grace and Rich were a love story for the ages – the sweet ballet dancer and metal head fell in love after first becoming friends, and it was all super adorable. Until, of course, the show had to bloody ruin it by putting Grace into a horrific car accident during the gang’s trip to Morocco, after which she ends up in a coma she never emerges from. The worst bit? Rich has hallucinations that Grace comes out of the coma, so we all thought maybe things were going to be OK for a bit. 5. Freddie Finds Effie In The Bathroom I’m not using an image of this moment because it’s too graphic, but when Freddie finds Effie in the bathroom after a suicide attempt, it’s a culmination of all the effort he’s put in to trying to help her. Her deep depression and his frustration and grief over it are all over this scene, it’s a brutal and harrowing moment. 4. Freddie’s Death One of the most controversial scenes in Skins history, I’d argue Freddie’s death wasn’t so much sad as it was shocking. Still – the moment Freddie realises Effie’s psycho psych has locked him in, followed by us not seeing but HEARING him be bludgeoned to death with a baseball bat is a truly tragic Skins moment. 3. Sid’s Dad Dies For me it was a tough one with this and Chris’ death, because I was actually more upset over Sid’s dad dying in some ways. I KNOW. It’s weird. But Sid had JUST kinda reconciled with his dad, so as viewers we were shocked when he comes into the lounge room to find his dad dead in his armchair. It’s shocking in it’s simplicity – his dad has simply died quietly, before Sid got to really repair their relationship. Sid is so shocked he just goes to school as normal, but it’s when he breaks down to Tony at a gig later in the episode that our tears really welled up. 2. Chris’ Funeral Now we’re at the pointy end, and there wasn’t much in this show that was more heartbreaking than Chris’ funeral – especially Jal’s speech and the fireworks. Oh god. It was too much. Almost as sad as… 1. Chris’ Sudden Death Oh. My. God. There is – I can unequivocally say this – no sadder moment in the history of Skins than the moment Chris says to Cassie “what’s my girlfriend’s name” and she thinks he is joking… only for him to dramatically deteriorate due to a brain haemorrhage in front of her eyes, before remembering “Jal” right before death. If you didn’t cry when you watched this the first time, you’re a demon. RIP Chris. This delicious herb can be challenging to keep alive, so find out how to keep your plant healthy and flourishing. | Australian Women's Weekly content brought to you by Now to Love
'Beautiful basil is possibly the world's most luscious herb. Most other herbs need to be used with discretion, but not basil. Basil is best if you use lots of it! Like just about every other fresh food, basil tastes best picked fresh from the garden. If you grow your own, you can choose from the many different basils that you'll never find in the supermarket Not just purple leafed basil, or giant lettuce leafed basil, but ruffled basil with wonderful crisp green leaves, perfect to mix in with a chicken salad. Or lemon scented basil, aniseed basil, cinnamon basil, intensely fragrant small leafed basil, mild perennial sacred basil that goes so well in Thai, Vietnamese or Laotian dishes, or perennial Greek basil. FYI, heavy frosts will kill both sacred and Greek basil, so they are best grown as annuals in frosty areas. So how do you grow this wonderful stuff? Buy a packet of seeds, or even easier, buy a punnet of seedlings. Basil seed is tiny and can take several weeks to germinate, so if you grow your basil from seeds, the weeds may grow before the basil does. Plant it in a sunny spot, though basil will tolerate light shade too, especially in hot climates. From Sydney south, try to make sure that your basil has at least four hours on sunlight a day. Basil grows best in very fertile soil - the more feeding, the bigger the leaves. Unlike many plants where overfeeding produces insipid plants, underfed basil is less fragrant than a well fed plant. Give your basil frequent doses of liquid manure throughout the growing season to keep up leaf production. The more you pick your basil the more you need to feed it. But most important: PICK YOUR BASIL OFTEN! Plants that don't get picked turn leggy and go to seed too soon. And always pick off the flower heads before the flowers bloom- and definitely before they set seed. Otherwise your poor basil plants will put all their energy into growing seeds, not big fragrant leaves for you to eat. WATCH BELOW: Find out the secret to creating the perfect creamy and delicious alfredo sauce. Story continues after video. Watch video In tropical areas, keep picking off basil seed heads and your plants will grow and leaf for several years. In cool, cold or temperate areas, say goodbye to your basil at the first frost, so make sure you eat lots before that happens.'

The ARIA Award winner will get a chance to perform his winning number this weekend at Splendour in the Grass in Byron Bay. “This song was a special one for Matt and I, one of the first songs we wrote together after a few years between his albums,” says Hume, who co-wrote the song. “No idea what would come, when it was finished it felt like it had always existed and we just happen to find it buried in the backyard studio of his house.” In a statement issued this morning from the competition organisers, Hume and Corby noted, “We are so grateful that such a positive song burrowed into the hearts and ears of our peers and genuinely humbled by this moment.” Thank you @VandaYoungComp pic.twitter.com/2h3UjMaCUe — Matt Corby (@MattCorby) July 16, 2019 Second-place, and a $10,000 cash prize donated by the Australasian Music Publishers Association (AMPAL), goes to Sarah Aarons for ‘The Middle,’ a Grammy-nominated worldwide hit performed by Zedd, Maren Morris and Grey. Now in its 10th year, the annual contest is much more than songwriters’ arm wrestle. It’s a fundraising vehicle for Nordoff-Robbins. Applicants chip in an entry fee of $50 per submission, with all money raised going to Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy Australia (NRMTA) programs. To date, entrants have raised more than $1.2 million for good causes. After sending Love Island fans into a frenzy by revealing he had competed on the Australian Ninja Warrior course, Jaxon Human was mysteriously cut. Here's why.
'Jaxon Human sent Love Island fans into a frenzy last week when he revealed he had taken on the infamous Australian Ninja Warrior course. But for fans hoping to catch another glimpse of the Charlie Hunnam-lookalike on the small screen, were left disappointed by the reality TV star's latest Instagram update. On Tuesday night, Jaxon shared a post to his Instagram Story revealing that, actually, he won't be appearing on the show after all. \'So for everyone watching Ninja, my run is not going to be aired this year,\' the Love Island hottie wrote. \'I am not sure why but thanks again for all the support.\' But turns out there's a very good reason for the reality star's mysterious removal from series. A Channel Nine spokesperson revealed that Jaxon was only due to for time constraints, revealing \'With so many Ninjas competing it's sadly impossible to show everyone's run.\' But regardless of his absence from this season's episodes, his stint on the course did at least bless us with some incredible eye-candy in the form of his shirtless snaps. In the images previously shared to his social media account, the buff reality star was dressed in only red shorts and sneakers and looked to be pretty hard as he attempted the difficult course, which not one person could beat last year. Jaxon is not the only famous name from reality TV to have appeared on Australian Ninja Warrior in the past. Among the other familiar faces to have previously tried their luck on the gruelling course are The Bachelor's Tim Robards and Married At First Sight's Bronson Norrish. Speaking to OK! at the time, Tim revealed the course \'is freakishly intense - so much so that only seven athletes have managed to complete it worldwide,\' AND his Warrior attempt and lead-up training comes while still recovering from bicep surgery. \'I had to take anti-inflammatories and PRP injections just to train,\' he said, emphasising that his body wasn't in peak condition. \'I was struggling with tendonitis in both arms after surgery.\' WATCH: See Tim Robard take on the gruelling Australian Ninja Warrior course Watch video'
